I have been starting most mornings with a fruit smoothie for over a year now. There are all kinds of recipes online that omit dairy and sugars. Here is my recipe:
1/2 cup ice
1 banana,
1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
1/2 cup of organic Apple juice (no sugar added – enough juice to not quite cover the ingredients).
1/2 tsp organic REAL vanilla extract
1 handful of fresh spinach (optional-this will add no flavor)
1 Tbsp Greek yogurt
Blend all ingredients in a cup with an immersion blender or in a conventional blender until smooth. If you add the optional yogurt, stir it in after the other ingredients are blended together to preserve the probiotic effects.
Today I added a drop of orange essential oil and wow! Tastes like an Orange Julius but without all the sugar. Yum!
Tip: You can use coconut milk instead of juice for less carbs and a touch of protein.
